For the celebrations of the year of France in Brazil,in May 2009, Ray Lema has been invited by the Jazz Sinfônica of Sao Paulo to perform two concerts,  being part of the official program for the commemorations. The Maestro João Mauricio Galindo came to Paris in December 2008 to meet Ray Lema and talk about the musics and the arrangements and decide how will be  the developpement of the concert. It was love at first sight between the african composer and the brazilian Maestro. During the conversations Ray LEMA draw a curve which he said should represent the flow charts of the concert. João Mauricio Galindo took it, and returned to Brazil. He then  listened  to 110 songs from Ray LEMA’s Cds  and  picked up 13 pieces he sent to three arrangers. The Maestro explained his choice by the conductive pattern, which actually reproduces the developpement of the classical  symphonies.
Totally inedited and fully contemporary, the musics unite african polyrhythms  with western melodies, which are the witness of  the composer’s musical journey.
For Ray LEMA this is the beginning of a dream,  it represents the beginning of an african written repertoire, which now can be performed by any symphony orchestra around the world.
For the Jazz Sinfônica it is also a new experience. More used to fusions with conventional jazz or brazilian popular music, the musicians of the orchestra had to learn the chemistry of  African rhythms, which despite their apparent similarity,  are quite different from brazilian rhythmical patterns.
In 2010, the orchestra  invited again Ray LEMA for a new concert to commemorate the birthday of the City of São Paulo , and later during fall 2010 to the prestigious classical music festival in Campos do Jordao. Lately, in may 2012, they opened the huge Festival “Virada Cultural” in São Paulo.
New projects in mind, new writtings, and a european tour planned for july 2013 ….
